Ricky Martin was going to appear on Glee this winteras McKinley High’s new Spanish teacher. But now EW has even more exciting news for Latin music fans: A source exclusively tells EW that pop superstar Gloria Estefan is currently in negotiations to play…
Last night, we met Santana’s grandmother, who did not approve of her granddaughter’s lesbian lifestyle. But we haven’t heard from her parents, who Santana claimed were supportive of their daughter’s coming out. Gleeks should expect to see Gloria in the same episode as Martin in January. Our source tells us that the entire cast is “really really big fans of hers and we love her music and her husband’s music.” In fact, the plan is for the episode is to feature some of Estefan’s own music as well as some other bilingual tunes.
The Fox phenom is in negotiations with Ricky Martin to guest star early next year, sources confirm to TVLine exclusively.
The bon-bon shaker extraordinaire will play what a Glee insider is calling “the hottest Spanish teacher ever in the history of Ohio.”
And a musically inclined one at that.
I’m told Martin’s scalding instructor will headline two big musical numbers in the episode, which is slated to air in late January.
After wrapping Glee, Martin is off to New York to begin rehearsals for his role as Che in the Broadway revival of Evita (opening in April 2012).
The Glee stint marks Martin’s most high profile acting gig since his two-year run on General Hospital in the mid-90s.
“It makes you cry and laugh,” Mad Men‘s Christina Hendricks, who appears in Lightning alongside Colfer, Allison Janney, Dermot Mulroney and Sarah Hyland, told me this weekend at the Rape Treatment Center benefit. “It’s very clever. It’s very smart. He’s just amazing. This guy can do anything.”
Colfer also wrote the screenplay. “She’s kind of a Goody Two-shoes,” Hendricks said of her character. “She’s a little naïve and hoping for the best but a little judgey too, a little judgmental. So she gets some surprises along the way.”
Hendricks wouldn’t mind a spin with Colfer over at his other job, too. “I would love to be on Glee,” she said. “I sing a bit.”
Hendricks made her musical stage debut in New York this spring opposite Neil Patrick Harris and Patti LuPone in a special three-night run of Company.
Turns out Ryan Murphy has been a little too busy to call Anne Hathaway about her guest spot on Glee. Come on now Ryan, didn’t you see Conan last week?
“I’m planning on it,” Hathaway said about her guest role as Kurt’s aunt on ‘Glee.’ “I don’t know if they’re planning on it.”
All this started after the Golden Globes last winter. Hathaway, who is currently filming ‘The Dark Knight Rises,’ said an innocent meeting between her and Ryan Murphy turned into a media storm. On her way to the bathroom, she ran into Murphy. Hathaway had already talked about her desire to be on ‘Glee’ in November 2010, so when she met Murphy he invited her on the series.
“Ryan Murphy goes, ‘Anne Hathaway! Come on ‘Glee.’ And I said, ‘Yes!’ and he said ‘Fab, I’ll call you,'” Hathaway said.
After the Globes, Hathaway said Murphy was telling reporters it was a done deal.
“He went back to the press room and said, ‘Anne Hathaway is going to be on the show,’ and that became like a news event,” she said.
“She created her own character, and we ran into her, and I said ‘Really?’ and she said ‘Yes!’ so we’re going to do that,” Murphy told E! Online. “We love her.”
All of this was in January. So, what happened?
“And I never heard from him again [laughs]. Ryan Murphy, I’m calling you out: I want to be on ‘Glee.’ I’ve got my songs picked out,” Hathaway said.
Come on, Murphy! You’re not shy about handing out roles like candy *SPOILERcough* multiple ‘Glee Project’ winners *ENDSPOILERcough*, what’s an Oscar nominee and America’s sweetheart gotta do? We know you said no guest stars this season, but bringing back Idina Menzel already violated that. Bring on the Hathaway!
There was a rumor for a while…now there’s not.
Cheryl Cole will NOT be appearing in Glee, amid reports that the gorgeous Geordie had bagged a cameo role on the show.
Allegations had claimed that the Girls Aloud star’s people were “in talks” with Glee bosses for her to guest star in the hit Fox TV series, with The Mirror claiming that her manager Will.I.Am thought it would help boost her dreams of cracking the US.
However, it seems Chezza will have to wait a bit longer before that dream becomes a reality, as her rep has quashed the rumours, branding them as “false.”
Despite failing to join Gleeks Lea Michele and Cory Monteith at McKinley High, NewsQuod.com has reported that Cole’s cameo role in new film, What To Expect When You’re Not Expecting has been confirmed.
The 28-year old will apparently play a talent show judge alongside the likes of Jennifer Lopez and Cameron Diaz.
Cheryl also hit the headlines this week after it was reported that she is teaming up with David Guetta on a track for her highly anticipated third solo LP.
I’m pretty sure they’re not serious about this but…stranger things have happened on Glee.
Don’t read further if you don’t want to know about a MAJOR guest star set to appear in the Nationals season finale…
As if the Broadway lights weren’t bright enough for New Directions, at least one of the Glee stars will be shooting with a living legend when the show goes to the Big Apple.
Patti LuPone will guest-star in an upcoming episode of Glee, which sees the club heading to New York for the Nationals competition. Rachel (Lea Michele) will run into the Tony winner at Sardi’s restaurant, according to TVLine.com.
“On set right now working with one of my all time idols … another day where glee makes one of my dreams come true,” Michele tweeted Thursday.
LuPone, who won Tony Awards for her portrayals of Eva Peron in the 1979 musical Evita and as Rose in the 2008 revival of Gypsy, most recently appeared on Broadway in Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown.
I’ll keep my mouth shut on this one…
Looks like Kathy Griffin’s taunts have finally awoken the Mama Grizzly.
Griffin, who has made sport of taunting the Palin clan, is set to play a Palin-type Tea Partier on an upcoming episode of “Glee,” something Fox News host Jeanine Pirro brought up to Palin in an interview over the weekend. That’s when the Mama Grizzly’s claws came out.
“You know, Kathy Griffin can do anything to me or say anything about me, because you know, she’s kind of this – she’s a 50-year-old adult bully is really what she is,” Palin said. “She’s kind of a has-been comedian and she can do those things to me. I would just ask for respect of my children. As she had stated on CNN that her New Year’s resolution was to destroy my 16-year-old daughter, that takes it a little too far.
“Kathy, pick on me, come up to Alaska and pick on me, but leave my kids alone.”
Griffin has made clear her dislike of the Palin family over the past two years, attacking both the matriarch and her TV-starring children. She’s called Bristol “the White Precious,” vowed to take down Willow, has taken Levi Johnston to events and even ripped Palin in a performance in Anchorage, Alaska.
The family has fought back before; in February, Bristol brought up Griffin’s near-fatal liposuction experience.
Who wants to be the next guest star?
There are plenty of musicians out there who not only want their songs covered on Glee, but would actually love to be on the show, too.
I recently told you Jennifer Hudson wouldn’t mind visiting McKinley High. Well, I’ve got another major singer for ya who wants some time in the Glee spotlight.
And she ain’t looking to play no substitute teacher like Ms. Hudson…
“I’d love to be on Glee,” Leona Lewis recently told me. “I’d love to play a rebel. Be a real biker chick in leather and covered in tattoos. A real badass.”
But if producers aren’t too keen on that idea, the “Bleeding Love” hitmaker said, “I could also play like a geek who becomes a swan.”
Lewis is already pals with Mr. Schue. Not only did she tweet a pic of her and Matthew Morrison hanging at a party during Grammy week, but back in June they performed together in London. They dueted on “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” during one of Lewis’ concert at the O2 Arena.
Leona Lewis on Glee? Let us know what you think by sounding off below.
Or a Sarah Palin type rather…
Kathy Griffin knows how to push those Palin buttons. And she probably will again, because TV Line reports that the comedian, who has sparred with the Palin family non-stop, will now play a Glee character inspired by Sarah Palin.
The casting notice called for someone to play “Tammy Jean, a middle-aged recent Tea Party candidate and home schooler — a Sarah Palin type.” Shooting begins tomorrow, says Movieline.
“We’ve taken a couple jabs at the right wing this year,” Murphy toldTV Guide last June. “So what I want to do with this character is have someone who Christian kids and parents can recognize and say, ‘Oh, look — I’m represented there, too!’ If we’re trying to form a world of inclusiveness, we’ve got to include that point of view as well.”
